Dropology: Liquid Art PhotographySolo Exhibition Viewpoint Gallery of Contemporary Photography Opening Reception held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 Artist's Talk held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 Exhibition ran from July 30 to September 1, 2013 Book coming soon - Dropology: The Liquid Art Photography of Keith Michael Cossey
"Dropology" presented Cossey's ongoing exploration of creative and innovative approaches to fine art photography. Through the magic of high speed photography the show captures the amazing but fleeting forms created as different liquid drops fall and collide. The transient, sculptural forms resembling blown glass are normally not visible to the human eye. It is only through the creative processes and techniques of high-speed photography that the action is frozen by a flash of light and the forms revealed. The process involves accurately aiming and releasing drops with precise timing and co-ordination of flash, focus and shutter release. Incredible variations are achieved by playing with the type, number of drops, drop size, drop frequency, colour, viscosity and surface tension of the liquids used. The shapes are captured as they naturally form and are not altered.
